Mock Maple Syrup

Makes: 300ml Ready in: 5 mins

Real Maple Syrup is expensive, even in Canada. This homemade substitute is cheap, easy, delicious and the kids likely can't tell the difference especially once its poured all over their pancakes. Make up a double batch and keep some in the fridge, stir into yogurt, porridge, or fold through whipped cream. It's a super versatile little sauce to have in your repertoire. 


  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence


        Combine in a small saucepan and heat until sugar is dissolved. Store in a bottle in the fridge.


        Add a splash of brandy and you've a grown up sauce perfect for pouring over the Christmas pudding or even just a bowl of ice-cream.
