This pasta bake makes 300g of beef mince into a hearty family meal. The robust Italian flavours appeal  to all ages and the cheesy topping can be enriched with the addition of a handful of parmesan if your budget allows.

Serves 4-6

300g lean beef mince
1 onion chopped
2 cloves garlic chopped
2 cups sliced button mushrooms
2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes
1/3 cup tomato paste
1 tsp mixed herbs
½ tsp oregano
2 tsp beef stock powder
2 tsp sugar
½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce
200g (2 heaped cups) dried pasta – macaroni, penne, shells…
Salt and pepper
1 tbsp butter or oil
1 1/2 tbsp pl flour
1 cup milk
½ cup grated cheese
Salt and pepper

Tips: You can added some additional grated cheese to the top before grilling for extra cheesy goodness. Grated vegetables can also be sneaked in, add to the pan with the onions and garlic, a courgette or carrot likely won’t be noticed by picky kids.
