Sophie GrayFashionable food that doesn't cost a fortune is what destitute gourmet (dg) is all about

dg came about through our own experiences of trying to feed - two fussy children and two foodie parents, on a grocery budget of $60-70 per week Sophie's background in restaurant cooking proved helpful when it came to creating delicious tasting, terrific-looking, healthy food from inexpensive ingredients.

Before long Sophie was demonstrating techniques and sharing recipes to community groups in halls and homes all over the country.. Working with and talking to these groups highlighted several trends, home cooks have become increasingly dependent on semi-prepared products such as ready-made sauces, and other meal bases and many people simply assumed that because something was available in a ready prepared form it must be difficult to make. As a result basic cooking skills are being forgotten while everyone Sophie spoke to wanted to spend less on groceries, and eat better quality food without spending more time in the kitchen.

destitute gourmet meets these needs by incorporating basic home economics with fresh inspiration. Not only do the recipe and cooking ideas appeal to those with lean grocery budgets but also they are warmly received by those with plenty of resources but are unhappy at their dependence on prepared products.

destitute gourmet looks at what can be made from what you already have in the pantry, what is in season, how you can make a little of something go a long way. No food snobbery, just good commonsense recipes, tips and ideas for real people.
destitute gourmet is a comprehensive cooking resource for ordinary people with regular incomes, fussy kids and busy lives, who love good food.
