How to Make Ant Poison

We wage a never ending war with ants in our area. I use a home-made ant poison which is much cheaper and every bit as effective as a bought one. Because its cheap I use it more regularly and liberally and our ant problem is better managed than it’s ever been. This mixture should be clearly marked as poisonous and stored out of reach of children – obviously!

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp boric acid or borax

Dissolve the sugar and water in a small pan, when cool whisk in the boric acid or borax and decant into a jar. Wash all utensils thoroughly. And label jar clearly as ant poison.

Borax is available from pharmacies, boric acid is made from borax and both are used as mild insecticides.
